Interesting Facts

  • AEP's nuclear generation group is headquartered in Buchanan, Michigan. The building located twenty miles from the plant, also houses some of the nuclear plant's emergency plan facilities.
  • Cook Unit 1 is one of the leading nuclear power generators in the United States, producing 143,000,000 megawatt hours through 1998. In 1994, a performance record of 470 days of continuous operation was the third longest run in the country for plants of similar design. Between 1994 and 1997, AEP employees worked over ten million hours without a lost time accident.
