Location:
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station is located three miles south of San Clemente, California,
next to San Onofre state beach on 257 acres leased from the Camp Pendelton US Marine Corp Base.
There are three units at this location. Unit 1 is currently being decommissioned while units 2 and 3
are licensed through 2022.

History
- Site construction started: Unit 1 - 1965, Units 2 & 3 1973
- Operating License received: Unit 1 - 1968, Unit 2 - 1983, Unit 3 - 1984
- Initial fuel load completed: Unit 1 - November 14,1974, Unit 2 - January, 2 1978
- Initial License Granted operation until 2013 for units 2 & 3, however construction recapture extended licensing basis through 2022
- Commercial operation: Unit 2 - 1983, Unit3 - 1984
Interesting Facts
- At the time of construction the Atomic Energy Commision set seismic standard greater than those established for any other nuclear power plant to guarantee seismec safety.
- During the construction of units 2 and 3, enough concrete was poured to fill a football field to the height of a 21 story building.
- SONGS - SCE is located next to one of the most famous surfing locations in the world, Trestles.
