One of the major milestones toward becoming a qualified nuclear instructor is to complete the Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO) Instructor Certification Program.

The Instructor Certification Program is a standard Instructor Certification Program based on guidelines from the industry. The program provides training on a standard set of tasks that each student learns to perform using their utility-specific procedures. It is a blended learning program, making use of technology and traditionally delivered training approaches.

The program includes web-based modules and exams, virtual classroom sessions, online classroom sessions, workbook activities and culminates with a three-day Take the Stage workshop.

USA fleet member Monticello hosted a session of the Take the Stage workshop in April. During the workshop, participants reviewed and practiced key instructional skills that were introduced during the web-based components of the program and practiced delivery of training material they designed and developed.

The participants received feedback from their peers, subject matter experts and the INPO program facilitators. Participants also provided feedback to their peers in the workshop. Workshop participants included INPO facilitators, instructors from nuclear power plants in the industry, including the Monticello plant.
