During the recent Utilities Service Alliance (USA) 2018 Executive Summit hosted in Seattle, Wash., its Board of Directors announced the election of Chairman Joel P. Gebbie, who currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer of American Electric Power’s Cook Nuclear Plant. He is joined in USA Board leadership by Vice Chairman Ken Peters, who serves as Chief Nuclear Officer at Luminant Generating Company’s Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant.

Mr. Gebbie will serve a two-year term and Mr. Peters will serve a one-year term, effective immediately.

“USA is honored to have such well-respected nuclear professionals to take the reins of our organization,” said USA President & CEO John Christensen. “With more than 60 years of combined leadership experience in commercial nuclear energy production between them, we are quite confident in their ability to continue to guide this vibrant organization through the challenging times ahead.”

Gebbie and Peters succeed Talen Energy Corporation’s Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Timothy S. Rausch, and Energy Northwest’s CEO Bradley S. Sawatzke, who served respectively as USA’s Board Chairman and Vice Chairman for more than five years. During their tenure, USA’s leadership model was reinvigorated, fleet initiatives were designed to support reduced operating costs and improved nuclear station safety and overall generation performance.

“Tim and Brad’s leadership was instrumental in USA’s fleet performance improvement initiatives,” said John. “They are both highly-respected across the nuclear industry and we benefited greatly from their influence and guidance. At the same time, I look forward to the leadership and counsel Joel and Ken will provide us as USA continues to support nuclear excellence across the country.”

USA is a not-for-profit cooperative headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, designed to facilitate collaboration among its member utilities. Together, it works to reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve safety and performance, and provide innovation and leadership within the nuclear power industry.
