USA fleet member PSEG Nuclear recently hosted the Region 1 Women in Nuclear (WIN) conference. PSEG Nuclear President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Bob Braun, provided opening remarks regarding the current state of the nuclear industry and the need for change to deliver on the Nuclear Promise which is to provide safe, reliable, and economic energy.

The conference, themed “Think Forward – I create our future today,” provided interactive development workshops and presentations to professionals from PSEG, Exelon, Susquehanna, Westinghouse, Entergy as well as students from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The agenda began with the Kirton Adaptation – Innovative Inventory led by Dr. Joe Carella of Eckerd College. This workshop helped participants measure styles of problem-solving and creativity.

After lunch, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra led a Leadership Quartet Demonstration & Performance. By examining the rehearsal process, the string quartet illustrated the different types of leadership skills used in musical preparation – teamwork, problem-solving, creative negotiation, compromise, and decision-making. It also demonstrated how those same skills can be applied in a professional setting.

The conference concluded with Lisa Hoshauer, President of Strategies for LIFE, Inc., who presented Generational Differences in the Workplace. The presentation provided insight about how to be “the best version of you.”

Women in Nuclear is an Employee Business Resource Group (EBRG) that supports an environment in nuclear energy and nuclear technologies in which women are able to succeed. This group provides a network through which women in these fields can further their professional development and an organization association through which the public is informed about nuclear energy and nuclear technologies.
