Each spring and fall, nuclear plants across the country bring in thousands of additional workers to their site as part of their refueling outages. For the Utilities Service Alliance (USA) fleet, it is also a time for supporting each other as members share key personnel in maintenance, radiation protection and other positions.

“One of the key benefits of the USA fleet is our personnel sharing program,” explained USA Vice President – Operations John Christensen. “It allows fleet members to capitalize on the expertise of subject matter experts and provides additional bench strength for outages and other major projects.”

Over the past three years, the USA fleet has shared more than 400 employees with the number continuing to grow each year. For the first time in the history of the personnel sharing program, USA fleet members PSEG Nuclear and Susquehanna took the personnel sharing program a step further when they agreed to share a key leader.

With more than 25 years of nuclear industry experience at PPL Susquehanna, Tom Iliadis joined PSEG Nuclear this month on a rotational assignment as the Director of Nuclear Oversight. He has held a variety of key leadership positions at PPL Susquehanna, including the past few years as General Manager of Operations.

“This partnership provides PPL Susquehanna with a great development opportunity for a key leader while also allowing PSEG Nuclear to benefit from someone who will offer a different and unique perspective on how we operate,” added PSEG Nuclear President and Chief Nuclear Officer Tom Joyce, who also serves as USA Board Chairman.

With an ongoing need for a skilled workforce, the USA personnel sharing program will continue to grow as will the opportunities to support fleet members when they need it the most.
