Issues identified, questions answered, problems solved in a timely manner

During the course of this year, USA’s Operations Core Peer Team has begun making consistent and successful use of Rapid Benchmarking – sending out requests for information on behaviors, standards or actions – and receiving quick responses from peer teams across the country sharing their experiences for every Station’s benefit.

For the last several months, in fact, Operations Core Peer Team engagement has peaked, not just on monthly calls but off the calls as well, said Tom Byykkonen, Ops Core Peer Team Lead and Operations CFAM with USA member station PSEG.

“My perception is that the Operations Managers from across USA are beginning to see some of the benefits of a Fleet,” said Tom. “Besides Rapid Benchmarking, which most every station is now initiating when tackling a problem, we conducted five ‘Jump Calls’ for tagging events in July alone.”

“Only one of those calls was for a Level One event. The other calls were for potential Level Two’s. The stations wanted the challenge of, “Are we making the right call, what are we missing, and looking for help with Corrective Actions,” said Tom. “The participating stations are taking away just as much as the requesting station. For the five jump calls only one station missed one call, nearly 100% on short notice, great response. Previously jump calls were not requested by the stations for lower level events.”

As the USA organization continues to mature and incorporate fleet-like activities like Rapid Benchmarking, member organizations will continue to excel in their nuclear performance.
