The Utilities Service Alliance (USA) has formally announced that Luminant, which operates Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant located near Glen Rose, Texas will join the fleet of independent nuclear plant operators as a full member effective January 1, 2015.

“We are pleased to welcome Luminant to the USA fleet,” said USA President and Chief Executive Officer Carl Parry. “With their active engagement in our performance improvement initiatives, the Comanche Peak team will benefit from the support they will receive from their peers at the other member stations. Additionally, they can achieve significant savings by aggressively using our fleet supplier agreements. Together with our existing members, we will continue our drive towards ’Simple, Cost-Effective Excellence’.”

USA is a non-profit cooperative of utilities that own or operate nuclear plants throughout the United States. Together, USA fleet members partner to reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve safety and performance and provide innovation and leadership within the nuclear power industry.

“We’re excited about the new opportunities ahead in joining the USA Alliance,” said Luminant Chief Nuclear Officer Rafael Flores. “The diverse experiences in operations and markets among USA members will be very beneficial for us. For example, the members of USA work with different reactor technologies, within different NRC regions and within different market structures – some regulated, others deregulated. These differences allow us to learn from each other, continuously improve and benchmark our own performance against that of our peers.”

Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant is owned and operated by Luminant and its two units produce 2,300 megawatts of energy, powering approximately 1.15 million Texas homes.

With Luminant’s membership, the USA fleet consists of eight utility companies operating 16 reactors that generate more than 18,000 MW of electricity. In addition to Luminant, the following utilities (and nuclear reactors) are members of the USA fleet:· A
