The City of Monticello named USA fleet member Xcel Energy and the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant the 2014 Monticello Industry of the Year recently.
A letter of congratulations from City Administrator Jeff O’Neill to Site Vice President Karen Fili and Chief Nuclear Tim O’Connor stated, “The event is an opportunity for the City to express its gratitude for the many contributions of your company to the community.”
Fili distributed an ebulletin informing the site of the award. “We appreciate the confidence and trust the community has placed in Xcel Energy and our plant,” Fili notified employees. “I will proudly accept the award on behalf of our employees. Your contributions at work and your continuing commitment to the community made this award possible. My thanks for helping earn this honor for Xcel Energy.”
Each year, the Monticello Industrial & Economic Development Committee (IEDC) selects the Industry of the Year award recipient as part of Minnesota Manufacturer’s Week. Minnesota Manufacturer’s Week 2013 is Oct. 21-25. The Industry of the Year award is given to a Monticello industry that stands out in its commitment to business excellence, employee training and engagement, community involvement, customer relations, innovation, and overall economic growth.

Site Vice President Karen Fili greets Paul Vitalis, Radiation Protection Senior Health Physicist. Fili attributes teamwork as a key component of Monticello’s recognition as the city’s 2014 Industry of the Year Award.
