Last April, when PPL Susquehanna employee Michael ‘Mickey’ Franczak passed away his faithful guide dog Archer was by his side. Mickey had been employed at USA fleet member PPL Susquehanna for 30 years in the Health Physics department in various capacities.
“Mickey was loved by many of us here and he has certainly been missed as well as his ever-present companion, Archer,” said PPL Susquehanna Radiation Protection Manager Shannon Peterkin. “Mickey never complained about the loss of his eyesight 20 years ago and was a productive and positive employee and friend.”
At the time, Susquehanna employees asked what they could do to assist. The team decided to contribute funds to The Seeing Eye, an organization in New Jersey that trains seeing-eye dogs from birth.
Just last month, The Seeing Eye presented the Franczak Family with information on the puppy which contributions helped to sponsor. More than $5,000 was given to The Seeing Eye and as a result, Mickey’s family earned the right to name one of its next guide dog pups. “Mickey” was named in his honor.
