Scott Sharp was recently announced the Director, Site Operations at Xcel Energy’s Prairie Island plant.
“Scott’s knowledge of the industry, commitment to the safe and reliable operation of the plant and understanding of the business planning process will be a great asset to this position,” said Site Vice President Kevin Davison. “He has led us through two long outages that had major construction elements, while continuing to focus on the things that make a plant succeed in this competitive industry.”
In this position, Sharp has the responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the plant – including operations, maintenance, production planning, chemistry and radiation protection. He is also responsible for engineering, security, training, regulatory affairs and business support.
Sharp has held a number of successive positions since joining Xcel Energy in 2002 as system engineering supervisor at the Monticello plant. He transferred to the Prairie Island plant in 2011 as assistant plant manager. Sharp has broad experience across the industry, starting his career in the United States Navy, where he was a Division Leading Petty Officer responsible for maintaining a nuclear power plant.
