Horns, employee chatter and music echoed the Deschutes parking lot recently as employees and guests participated in the Safe Day Event for USA fleet member Energy Northwest (EN).
There were more than 40 informational booths spread throughout the parking lot for the event reinforcing safe practices at work and at home. To support the Safe Day event volunteers ranged from employees, contractors, vendors and Public Utility Districts.
During the Safe Day event Grover Hettel, vice president Operations, paused for a phone call received by an employee to assist with a question simulating the phone a friend segment featured on the question and answer show “Cash Cab.”
“The Safe Day event was a great way for employees to reiterate EN’s safety practices and Excellence Model,” Hettel said. “Our employees were fully engaged and I am truly amazed at the creativity our employees displayed to promote the company’s messages regarding safety in the workplace, safety at home and the Excellence Model.”
Prizes were awarded to the top three booths. Some participants informed other booths they had the best booth and there was no competition.
“It was great to see all of the departments get together and everyone participating in the event,” Ryan Perrault, Mechanic, said. “Our booth [Craftsman Initiative] has been bantering with other booths around us.
As employees and guests passed the booths you could sense the teamwork and enthusiasm employees displayed during the event. Joel Anderson, Facilities, called employees by name down to the “Cash Cab” and Michael Laudisio, Radiological Services manager, made a guest appearance of Alex Trebek.
Carl King, assistant to vice president Operations, donned gloves to participate in the event under the Corporate Services booth. The team presented the pinch points on the board and the proper use of gloves.
Linda Gott, EN executive board member, participated in the Safe Day event and learned a lot about EN’s safety practices.
“As a board member, I was able to see firsthand how the Excellence Model has changed behaviors and how the principles have trickled down throughout the organization.”
