Yesterday (3-10) we had an issue with a special lifting device at Monticello. During vessel disassembly it was discovered the newly procured Steam Dryer strong back would not properly connect to the Dryer. This led to an effort to design a different lifting rig using a combination of strong backs. There were concerns as to what design controls and testing requirements would be necessary to comply with all applicable standards. I contacted the USA engineering peer team to provide assistance and challenge to the site engineering plan. First replies were received within 45 minutes and multiple stations provided technical opinions and participated in a challenge board. The assistance from the team resulted in a completely different approach and prevented a situation where some ANSI standard requirements could have been missed.

I would like to particularly commend the DC Cook station for their extraordinary effort in this process. This serves as an excellent example of the benefit gained from USA fleet engagement in critical decision making.
