STP received official notification from the NRC recently that its Shutdown Bank Control Rod D6 License Amendment Request (LAR) has been accepted for review. The next step in the review process is an NRC audit, scheduled the week of June 28 in Washington, D.C.

In late May, STP provided requested supplemental information to the NRC on its Shutdown Bank Control Rod D6 License Amendment Request (LAR). The request is to permanently change the Unit 1 Technical Specifications to reflect future operations without Shutdown Bank Control Rod D6. On Monday, May 16, STP received notification from the NRC outlining additional information needed to consider the LAR for acceptance review.

The proposed LAR was submitted to the NRC on Thursday, April 7. Last December, the NRC approved a License Amendment to operate Unit 1 during the current 18-month operating cycle with 56-full length control rods instead of 57. This amendment expires in March 2017.
