Keith Polson, a 27-year veteran of the nuclear industry, is the new site vice president at Fermi 2, a Utilities Service Alliance fleet member.
Polson most recently was site vice president at the Browns Ferry Nuclear plant in Athens, Ala.
“I’m pleased to welcome Keith to Fermi 2,” said Paul Fessler, Fermi 2’s senior vice president and Chief Nuclear Officer. “His experience in the nuclear industry is significant and will benefit our plant in many ways.”
Polson has held positions of increasing responsibility in the nuclear industry. From 2010 to his start at Fermi in early January, he was site vice president at Tennessee Valley Authority’s Browns Ferry plant, where he led the effort to significantly improve performance. Prior to that, he was vice president of Nuclear Operations Support for the TVA fleet.
From 2007 to 2009, Polson was site vice president at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Plant in Oswego, NY; he was promoted following a stint as plant general manager at Nine Mile Point, where he was responsible for Operations, Maintenance, Work Control, Radiation Protection and Chemistry.
Polson also held various management positions at Exelon, including site vice president and plant general manager at the Braidwood plant. Prior to that, he was plant general manager at the Clinton Nuclear Plant.
Polson’s additional experience includes corporate outage manager at Entergy corporate offices, responsible for improving outage performance at the Grand Gulf and River Bend plants. He also was Operations director at River Bend, as well as site outage manager and instrument maintenance supervisor at Dresden. Polson held a senior reactor operator license at Dresden.
A graduate of Purdue University, Polson holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
“I look forward to working with Keith and I’m sure that the Fermi team will welcome him and embrace his considerable knowledge and insights,” Fessler said.
Fermi 2 also named Mathew Caragher as the new Director of Nuclear production — or plant manager — in January. Caragher most recently worked on a loan assignment with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), where he served as a member of evaluation teams for two years. Prior to that, he served as Fermi 2’s director of engineering.
