The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) 95002 Inspection Team informed USA member Susquehanna Station Thursday, July 31, that the organization had successfully completed its 95002 Inspection. NRC Inspectors said that the Station had demonstrated its understanding, conducted thorough evaluations and developed and implemented comprehensive corrective actions. An NRC public meeting will be scheduled. At that time, Unit 2 will officially move from Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Column 3 to Column 1.
“Thank you to all members of Team Susquehanna for this tremendous accomplishment,” said Susquehanna’s Site Vice-President Jon Franke. “Several members of the organization have been preparing for the Inspection full time, and all members of Team Susquehanna contributed in some way to this success.”
The NRC Inspection Team also complimented Team Susquehanna for the timely and proficient support provided to the NRC team throughout the inspection.
The inspectors were able to verify all requirements of the 95002 Inspection Manual were met. The NRC team exited with no findings that impacted the 95002 Inspection Objectives.
“This, in itself, is a significant achievement,” said Jon. “Throughout the inspection, the NRC offered several critical observations and weaknesses below the level of findings, which have been entered into the Station’s Corrective Action Program.”
The NRC Inspection Team developed one finding which, in essence, describes how inadequately maintained procedures contributed to the Unit 2 level excursions on March 20 of this year. The NRC Team recognized that Condition Report CR-2014-08941 was generated to evaluate and track resolution of the identified issues.
“Susquehanna’s hard work since the fall of 2013 shows,” said Region I Reactor Projects Branch Chief Fred Bower. “However, it is not a time to rest. You must continue the journey to improve your behaviors and performance.”
Ho Nieh, Region I, Director of Division of Reactor Projects, noted “the progress Susquehanna has exhibited with supervisors who are aligned, engaged, and accountable.” He said he looks forward to observing these attributes being accepted at all levels of the organization.
