Our hearts go out to Belgium after the vicious coordinated attacks throughout their country. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security noted that there have been no specific, credible threats to the United States.

Belgium’s nuclear safety regulator asked all non-essential staff at the Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants to go home on Tuesday. This was one of many measures taken nationwide in Belgium after the country’s national security threat was raised to its highest level, Level 4. There were no direct threats to any Belgium nuclear power plants, where security has been increased per emergency protocols.

The NRC is assessing the current threat environment domestically to determine if U.S. facilities need to adjust their security posture. At this time, there has been no change in security posture or threat level.

The USA Security team is monitoring the situation, and is engaged with the NRC, NEI, and other industry partners.
